How to troubleshoot PowerMgr.exe Error Message “0x0000007E The specified module could not be found”

Problem Description

Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks can experience Error Message “0x0000007E The specified module could not be found” after updating Lenovo Power Manager (PowerMgr.exe) to (Version 10.0.128.0 Release 13 Oct 2020) manually or over the Lenovo Vantage Software. At every restart of your Notebook the Error Message will pop-up once you login to Windows.

This problem seems to be a bug inside the Lenovo Settings Power Manager for Windows 10 (Version 10.0.128.0 Release 13 Oct 2020). We haven’t further investigated into this problem and have choosen the easiest solution. Basically uninstalling the faulty driver as mentioned below. Once you uninstall the faulty component Windows pick the previous version from its driver reporistory.

You can proceed as follows to fix this problem.

Solution

Uninstalltion Instructions :

1. Start Windows and logon with an administrator account.
2. Open device manager.
3. Open system devices and select "Lenovo Power Manager" device.
4. Right click the file.
5. Choose "Uninstall device".
6. Check "Delete the driver software for this device" and select OK.

After the Uninstallation you can verify your current installed version of Lenovo Power Manager Driver as follows.

Determining the Installed Version :

1. Press Windows key + X, and click Device Manager.
2. Open System devices and select "Lenovo Power Manager" device.
4. Right click the item and choose "Property".
5. Open "driver" tab.
6. Check Driver version.
